Virtuality can be fun?
It's been a year since we have adapted to the new normal and we are still trying
to adjust to it. But it seems like we actually miss the good old days as if we are
not satisfied with this new normal. Definition of a new normal is subjective but
for me, it's nothing but a medium to do work that has now taken a new form.
And the new form is the online or virtual mode. Before the pandemic usage of
the word, “Virtual” was less compared to how much it’s used now. The
Pandemic for sure has changed the world from how it was.
Just like most of us, even I thought that all my fun and plans were screwed up
because of virtual classes. But I was wrong. I actually had a lot of fun even
during the virtual mode and I am still having. The recollection of time spent
with family, friends, and on events even though virtually are golden. Staying
away from family was hard but one video call would make me realize how
much they value me and even a 15 minutes talk would relieve my stress. Never
thought that I would learn yoga online through zoom but I did and yes I did
imbibe a good habit of getting up early and exercising. Long-hour talks with
school friends would just make me nostalgic about how crazy we were back then.
Making the room theatre by turning off the lights, turning on the AC with
some popcorn, and watching the streaming movie on the OTT platform with my
sibling is the memory I still relish. Making birthday videos and sending parcels
to each other's house was the new way of surprising our loved ones. Conducting
open mics and being part of it, playing games like Kahoot, ludo king would just
make me sportive and competitive. And even though we mostly talk through
screens it does make me feel connected with my people.
This was all during my vacation but as soon as college started with online virtual
lectures nothing changed. I really enjoyed online lectures because the class was
very inclusive. Participating in events after events and playing online games
with seniors at nights on weekends has become my weekend schedule. I never
thought I would say this but I somewhat like this new normal virtual world. I
learned to adapt and stay focused. I am proud of myself because I feel blessed to
be around loving and caring family friends, active classmates, and enthusiastic
seniors. I know this time too shall pass. It will be the fondest memory in my
heart. “If you are positive you will see opportunity instead of obstacles” this best
suits the current situation. Many people took the changing medium that is
virtuality as an opportunity while some took it as an excuse. The choice is up to you
to either make it or break it.
